participated in “ Dhinak Dhin Dha” a national level dance competition conducted by A.R.Productions,
New Delhi for Delhi Doordarshan, at T series studio at film city, Noida and got
the first prize. The judge for the show Pandith Jayakishan Maharaj, dancer
choreographer of Mudhri Dixit in Dil To Pagal Hai movie and S/o Pandith Birju
Maharaj, a well known Kathak artist appreciates her performance. The
child performed this only by seeing the CD of the same dance inserting the
Bharathnatyam steps in some places when the original performance is in Kathak
Style. Pandith Jayakishan Maharaj was shocked to know that the child did not understand
Hindi.
·Apart from the above, she has given many dance
performances at various prestigious institutions/ places including the
Rajangana Hall at Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi.
During Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations
November 2005 Tanvi self Choreographed dances for 2 of the Kannada poems by
great Kannada poets Dr.Da.Ra.Bendre and Chennaveera Kanavi and send the Video
CD of the same to the Honorable President of India Dr A.P.J.Abdul Kalamji and
earned his blessings.
Shehad to perform a dance program in Mumbai
on 18th June 2006 at Gokul hall at Sion during the annual day program of South
Canara Stanik Bramins’ Association at Mumbai. The function went on very well
and the child was honored when Sri K.R. Rai, (father of MS Aishwarya Rai who
had sent her appreciation in writing for the dance talent when the child was
just 5 years old) came to the function just to see her dance and blessed her
after the dance. Sri K.R.Rai after watching all of her 4 dances had words of
appreciation for the child & also had his food with the child as a token of
affection.
Actually the previous day there was an Orchestra at Karnataka Bhavan at
Matunga, organized by Women’s’ Wing of Bramins Associatiion in aid of OLD Age
Home at Nehrul by Sanjay Sawanth, Guru of Abijith Sawanth the Sony TV Indian Idol Winner. Some of
the finalists of Indian Idol performed in that function. In the middle of the
show there was a request for any of the audience to dance near the stage and
Tanvi went for it. Some one in the front row lifted her to the stage. When she
danced the appreciation was from all around. Afterwards Sanjay Sawanth sang
"Madhuban me radhika nachere" from old Hindi hit movie Kohinoor and
one of the audience took Tanvi who had not heard that song till that to
the stage to dance for that song just a couple of seconds before which her
father could brief her about the meaning of the song in one sentence. The
singer in the end went on to do some sort of jugal bundhi with the dancing
child & the child won in the end when the singer ended with a note “
Bap Re Bap”. The entire crowd gave a standing aviation. Her on the spot choreography
talent was exposed there when everyone congratulated us that she had expressed
the meaning of that old famous song to perfection. The child actually stole the
show. She got congratulations from the crowd which varied in age from 8 to
80.The entire crowd stood to clap for her. It was a great hit in the end.
Her performance at “ Parle G Dum Duma
Dum Dance Contest” at Mumbai Doordarshan where she won the first prize (without
knowing any Marati and choreographing the Marati song by the help of video and
self with the help of her mirror), was telecasted on Sayhadri channel during
July 06.
During the Golden jubilee celebration of
MIT Manipal there was a musical program by Sri Suresh Wadkar, the famous Hindi
Playback singer. During the closing hours of the program Tanvi instantly went
to the stage and danced for “Goro Ki Na Kaloki” sung by Sri Wadkar after
learning the brief meaning of that song by her parents before stepping to the
stage. Sri Wadkarji was so impressed that he asked her whether she want to
continue dancing at the end of the song and she accepted and as her parents’
heart was going up in tension as she was to dance for those songs without
knowing any clue abut the meaning of these songs. Then the next 3 dance focused
songs were sung by wadkarji ( Chappa Chappa Karna Chale from Border, Sapne me
Milte Hai from Satya etc.,) for which she choreographed her movements on the
spot and earned great appreciation from all around. At the end Sri Wadkarji
presented her a rose and had his heartfelt appreciation & announced “
Bahoti Talented Hai. Aage Jaake Yai Kuch toh Jaroor Banegi.Kya Banegi?... Yeh
next aishwarya Banegi” (Very Talented. She will achieve something or the other
in future. What it will be? She will be next aishwarya”).
Sri Gurukiran, the famous Music Director
invited her to perform at beach festival 2007 where the famous Hindi playback
singer Sri Udith Narayan performed. Tanvi performed Ra Ra from Aaptamitra and
earned Sri Gurukiran’s and Sri Udith Narayan’s appreciation infront of a huge
crowd of more than a lac. This program was telecasted later by Zee Kannada
Channel.
It is important to note that all the
achievements in other than classical form of dancing where she won 2 national
level prizes and pat on her back from some of the great names were with self
practice as for these forms of dancing her practice is like Ekalavya’s in
Mahabharatha. Her dedication has been her Guru and that has been the special
talent / Gift which God has sent her with.
She was also honored for her
achievements by the Mayor of Mangalore in Mangalore Town hall during

JAIDEEP SHENOY
It was a memorable meeting for little Tanvi.
Moment to cherish: Madhuri and Tanvi
What happens when real meets reel? An
overwhelming need to pinch oneself to see if the meeting was for real. This was
precisely what the petite little B. H. Tanvi Rao, a Std. V student of St. Agnes
Primary School, Mangalore felt after meeting Madhuri Dixit Nene at Mumbai on
the latter’s birthday.
The meeting set up by Rakesh Nath, a close acquaintance of Ms. Dixit, came
after he watched a dance sequence choreographed by Tanvi. Incidentally, Tanvi
had self choreographed part of the song sequence from Ms. Dixit’s ‘Aaja
Nachale’. More interesting is the fact that Tanvi had watched only bits of the
song based on promos of it being broadcast on television channels in the run up
to actual release of the film.
Dance little lady
Tanvi relied extensively on the audio track of the song to choreograph the
dance, notes her father Hariprasad Rao. “Around fifty per cent of Tanvi’s dance
was based on the actual choreography as seen in the film and the rest the
product of her imagination,” he adds. An expert dancer in her own right, Tanvi
was more than thrilled when she got an audience with Ms. Dixit, who spent more
than 10 minutes with her on that day.
Recalling her meeting with Ms. Dixit, Tanvi says, “The whole meeting still
flashes before my eyes and her words of blessing wishing that I become world
class dancer and choreographer keeps ringing in my ears.Admitting that she
could not believe that she had met Ms. Dixit in flesh and blood for quite some
time after she had come out from the hotel, where Ms. Dixit was staying, she
says the realisation dawned much later.
It was the perseverance of Mr. Rao which set up this meeting with the Bollywood
starlet. He had prepared a CD of Tanvi’s dance and passed it on to Mr. Rakesh Nath.
Impressed by Tanvi’s talent, Mr. Nath then fixed an appointment for the Rao’s
who met her at the J. W. Marriot in Juhu. Ms. Dixit was appreciative of the
various accolades and prizes won by Tanvi in various dancing competitions and
her penchant for choreography. Will this meeting spur Tanvi to greater heights
in her fledgling dance and choreography career? Mr. Rao says it will certainly
inspire Tanvi to strive for the best in all that she does. “Words of
encouragement from an accomplished star like Madhuri Dixit will do her a world
of good,” he notes
-------
On 22.11.2008 at her tender age of 10
and half she gave her Bharathnatyam Rangapravesha ( arangetram) in front of jam
packed Mangalore town hall crowd in excess of 1500 with appreciations from all
around.
On 25.2.2009 Honorable Dr A.P.J.Abdul
Kalamji visited Mangalore and met this budding artist through a personal
appointment, spent about 5 minutes to listen about her little achievements in
her own words and blessed her and personally collected the arangetram CD from
her hand with a promise to view it. After a few days Tanvi received a letter
from Honorable Kalamji mentioning that he watched the CD and appreciating the
performance with blessings with a special mention that she should develop her
own creative style with this base.
During September 2009 she passed her
Bharthnatyam Junior grade exams conducted by the Karnataka Education Board with
88% Marks & in 2012 passed Senior Grade of the same with 79% marks &
now preparing for Vidwath in Bharathnatyam just when she is 14 years of age.
Tanvi has given dance performances in
Indian Cultural Centre, ( Indian High Commission) at Malaysia.
This year in August she was selected by
British Council through AGG Dance Academy in Bangalore under the guidance and
leadership of Dr Poornima Choradi to
take part in the Edinburgh International Fringe Arts Festival at Edinburgh,
Scotland, U.K for a dance drama named “Bhandhan” . At Fringe Festival which is
the largest Arts festival in the world more than 2500 troupes consisting around
44000 participants from 57 countries take part and Tanvi won the Best Debutant
award. Later Ms Fiona Heylson, The Cultural Minister of Scotland congratulated
the team Bhandan for the wonderful performance through Mr Barry Woods Manager
international group Edinburgh fringe.
Made her bollywood entry through Gulaab
Gang with Madhuri Dixith & Juhi Chawla in a pivotal role of Fiza an 13 year
old girl of Madhuri Dixith Gulaab Gang’s youngest member. Her Rang se hui
Rangili dance in the movie with the queen of dance Madhuri Dixith in this movie
earned Tanvi greatest admiration from many. She has many offers coming from
bollywood and Telugu and Tamil films but as at present wants to concentrate on
her studies due to which she could not take up an opportunity to act & dance
with Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal role in a Boney Kapoor production project this
January 2014. However, her second bollywood movie as hero Kanan Nath’s sister
and Vinodh Khannaji’s & Zarina Wahabji’s daughter in a small role in Guns
of Banaras ( Hindi version of Polladavan of
Tamil) is expected to release during end of 2014.Tanvi donated the entire
signing fees received by her for movie Gulaab Gang, back for the art by
distributing the same to the various needful classical dance students & art
causes at Mangalore in the year 2014.
During the song shoot of Rang Se hui she
earned appreciation and applauds from Saroj Khanji. Also Saroj Khanji’s main
dance teaching senior dance choreographers complimented Tanvi with honorable words “ yeah
bacchi hamare kala ko aage lehkar jayegi aur marne nahin dehgi”. They have
invited Tanvi to perform in their classical dance drama “Shakuntala” in Europe
during 2015 for the role of small shakuntala.
Mrs Anajali Tendulkar conveys her
appreciation and affection to Tanvi in writing conveying that she will soon see
Tanvi in Gulaab Gang with Sachin. She writes to Tanvi “ I heartily Congratulate on your debut in
bollywood in Gulaab Gang. You have achieved much at a young tender age and you
are an inspiration to many of the youngsters today. I wish you the very best on
behalf of Sachin & myself & know for sure that you will achieve a lot
in the years ahead”
Sri Kadri Gopalnath the famous
International Saxophone Artist invites her to his house and blesses her to
become one of the great artists & keep the name of her native place Kadri
flying for many many years like him.
